Every Flight’s content is being checked by a guide who has lived in the country, and the app marks it until that’s done.

Flight plan

Every Virtual Flight follows a real one

The stages mirror an in-person LunchTrip Flight. A little plane moves along the route as you go.

  1. IntroductionA guide’s welcome to the country.
  2. Words to tryHear each word out loud, then say it back.
  3. Daily lifeWhat an ordinary day looks like there.
  4. FoodThe dishes you’d share at a real Flight.
  5. WorkshopOne question to talk over. There’s no wrong answer.
  6. LandingA short quiz, then a stamp in your passport.

Kids and grown-ups

Two tracks for every country, each written for its readers. The kids’ version isn’t the grown-ups’ text cut down.

Many languages

Every screen and every word of content in English, Español, 日本語 and six more languages. Switch at any point in the Flight.

No accounts, nothing collected

Names, answers and stamps stay on your device. No sign-up, no tracking, no ads.

For teachers

Take the whole class on a Flight

  • Projector view in very large type with photos, one idea at a time. Move on with the arrow keys or big buttons.
  • Workshop timer for 3, 5 or 10 minutes, with a different prompt for each small group.
  • Class boarding passes. Paste your class list and print a pass for everyone. The list is never saved.
  • Lesson sheets with everything on the slides and the quiz answers, ready to print.

In-person Flights · since 2008

It began at a lunch table in Japan

LunchTrip Japan has been flying since 2008. Its lunch events, called Flights, each visit one country: passengers read up before boarding, a guide who has lived there introduces it, small groups take on a question together, and everyone shares an authentic meal.

LunchTrip Foundation brings the same ideas to the US. We’re starting with Virtual Flights, a taste of LunchTrip you can take any time, from any browser.

At an in-person Flight? Scan the crew’s QR code and a real stamp goes into your Virtual Flights passport.
